Former Iraqi Prime Minister and Chairman of Law Coalition faction in the Iraqi Parliament Nouri al-Maliki said that Turkey’s eye is on the city of Mosul in northern Iraq and attempts to take advantage of the city’s situation and separate it from the rest of Iraq.
On Monday, Maliki meet with Albu Mohammed tribe leaders in Baghdad.
In the meeting, he stated, “Iraq is under a big threat,” he continued, “Therefore, I ask everyone to carefully combat the threat.”
Regarding the deployment of Turkish forces in northern Iraq, he noted, “Iraq rejects the deployment of Turkish forces in the country. Turkey’s eye is on Mosul and wants to separate the city from Iraq.”
“However this dream of Turkey will never come true, because Iraq rejects the presence of Turkish force in the country”, says Maliki.
Maliki asked the tribal leaders to support the security forces of Iraq such as Shi’ite Hashd al-shabi militia and Iraqi army against the ISIS insurgents in the country.
Last week Turkey deployed its forces to areas near Mosul in northern Iraq, and it angered Iraqi government and accused Turkey in “violating the sovereignty of Iraq.”
